Are You Thirsty For God?

Plants get thirsty and so do we.

I have this large, big leafed plant sitting in my front window. I admire this plant because I have actually been able to keep it alive. I have always struggled with having a “green thumb” and tend to either over or under water my plants leading to their untimely demise. I struggle with where to place my plant for optimum sunlight and it perhaps gets too much or again, not enough. I may leave it thirsty.

A growing plant undergoes a process called photosynthesis. The plant uses energy from the sun and creates food for its nourishment. The plant uses hydrogen from the water that its roots absorb and carbon dioxide from the air. These are vital for the survival of the plant.

As I have gotten older I have gained wisdom as to how much water a plant needs and where it needs to be placed, but there is one thing for sure, a plant always needs water, sunlight and oxygen. Relieving it of thirst.

We, as humans, have no trouble feeding our bodies and giving them the rest, nourishment and movement that they require.

As women of God how are we sustaining life in our souls? How are we quenching the thirst? Are we filling our hearts, mind and souls with the nourishment that it needs to flourish it what God has for us?

In John 4:14 we read “But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Jesus quenches our thirst.

Scripture is filled to the brim with references of thirst and water. Jesus invites us to fulfill our needs through HIM and HIM alone. We can strive to fill ourselves with the things of this world but we will always be left wanting something more.

John 7:37

Revelation 22:17

Psalm 63:1

We can fill our souls with money, relationships, success, achievement, and adventure, just to name a few. These things are not harmful within themselves but if we are looking to these things to fill us, we will always be left empty-handed. They simply cannot sustain us. We will always be thirsty.

Jesus promises that He alone is our only true source of fulfillment.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”

John 14:6

Are you watering your soul today?
